Jimmy Don Beech, 84, of Chatom, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Washington County Hospital. He was born in Yarbo on Wednesday, July 28, 1937, to Wister Cain Beech and Lomie Mosley Beech. He retired as the plant manager at Conoco Phillips in Chatom and was a member of Chatom Baptist Church where he had served as Sunday School director and deacon. He also enjoyed his church family at Pine Level Baptist Church in Hobson. He was also a proud veteran of Vietnam Conflict, serving in the 714th Tank Battalion in Schweinfurt, Germany.
He loved people and loved to talk and could be found most days at Andrews Hardware Jake's Family Restaurant and Chatom Post Office. He spent his days raising blueberries, apple trees, lemon trees, kumquat bushes and scuppernong vines. His absolute favorite hobby was cutting his four-acre lawn with his zero-turn mower. He said many times that he wanted to be remembered for leaving behind dead grass.
Jimmy Don was proud of his children, and his grandchildren were the center of his world. He always looked forward to the day he would be reunited with the love of life, Ms. Norma. His family is thanking God for His mercy and grace.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma Faye Patrick Beech and brother, Gerald Beech.
He is survived by his children, Donna (Terry) Beasley, Jimmy (Mary) Beech, Jr., Bridget Sheffield, Ben (Janet) Beech; siblings, Nelson (Becky) Beech, Janie Cathryn Beech; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Chatom Baptist Church with Drs. Jerry Roberson and Robert Kirkland officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Chatom Town Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
