John Michael Brown, 70, of Leroy, Alabama passed away at Jackson Medical Center on October 31, 2024. Michael was born on May 15, 1954, to parents Tollie and Sarah (Reeves) Brown. Michael graduated from Jackson High School in 1972 where he was a star football player with the Jackson Aggies. He attended Auburn University where he walked on with the Tigers and graduated with a degree in Agricultural Science. After graduation he worked at Olin Chemical and then moved closer to home to work at Lowman Steam Plant where he worked until he retired.
Michael was a dedicated, hardworking man who lived each day with joy and purpose. He was truly one of a kind with his unmatched work ethic, teaching ability, and love for others. He had an ability to share his knowledge and skills with those around him in simple ways that taught them life lessons such as sportsmanship, camaraderie, and a love for the wonderful world God gave us. Michael wanted to share his knowledge with everyone, even taking a beaver tongue to his kindergarten son's class show and tell when the letter for the week was "T." This was classic Michael, a twist of humor while educating others about nature. Michael was graced with the ability of singing beautifully; a talent he regularly shared at Pine Grove United Methodist Church where he was a long-time member. He was also a member of Washington County Cattleman Association. One of Michael's deepest passions was his love of the outdoors; you would rarely find him indoors no matter the weather. When Michael wasn't outdoors, he could often be found reading or watching a good Western or spending time with wife, Sallie. Michael and Sallie loved to travel, whether to see new places, visit family, or to find something along an antique trail. Michael never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Michael would light up the room with just his presence, smile, and a quick joke. A family friend said it best: "His smile was so bright, just like his voice". Michael was devoted to everyone around him, especially his wife, kids, and grandchildren. He loved everyone deeply and it showed with his actions to all.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Tollie and Sarah Brown; and brothers, Jim, Willie, and Ronnie Brown.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sallie (Powell) Brown; sons, John Carson (Cara) Brown and Michael Edward Brown; grandchildren, Alan (Terri), Emily, Garrett, and Gabriel Brown; brother, Gene Brown as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
