John Hilton Platt, 90, of Fruitdale, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Mobile Infirmary. He was born in Fruitdale on April 16, 1930 to Wade Hamilton Platt and Maud Brock Platt. A proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served four years during the Korean Era Conflict. He was stationed in Germany until he was re-assigned to France to assist in the construction of a new base after the Communist Party contaminated the water supply at the initial site. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, farming and spending time in wooded areas. A member of Fruitdale United Methodist Church, he was a proud native of Washington County who enjoyed sharing stories of adventures in and around the area.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Charles "Chas" Simon and siblings, Grace Platt, Ormand (Florence) Platt, Inez (Woodroe) Davidson, Monroe (Lou) Platt, Hampie Platt, Noland (Elizabeth) Platt and Nelson (Doris) Platt.
He is survived by his wife, Sophie Hentschel Platt; children, Greg (Marquetta) Platt, Mona (Chuck) Simon; grandchildren, Amy Strehle, Brian (Sarah) Platt, Rachael Simon, Rebecca Simon; great-grandson, Isaiah Strehle; sisters, Esther (W.C.) Moss, Jane (Beaman) Weathers and numerous other relatives and friends.
