Joseph E. "Buddy" Perkins, 77, of Jackson, passed away September 22, 2021 at North Baldwin Infirmary in Bay Minette. He was born at home in Marengo County on August 2, 1944 to Charles Perkins and Dorothy Wilkinson Perkins. He retired as a supply sergeant with the Alabama National Guard, but he was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and had been employed as a manager with Morrison's Cafeterias, Ciba Geigy and Lewis Pest Control. A member of Jackson First United Methodist Church, he had also been an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Kingdom Builders and Shriners. He enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles and was an avid fan of The University of Alabama football program. He was blessed to enjoy watching all four of his grandchildren who referred to him as "Big Daddy" in their sporting activities and told everyone how awesome they were.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Hartsell.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Diane Horton Perkins; daughters, Thea (Billy) Wiggins, Freya (Billy) Biggers; grandchildren, Will (Katie) Wiggins, Rush (Molly) Wiggins, Dr. Kalin McCabe (Toby) Roach, Carter Biggers; siblings, Mike (Susan) Perkins, Patty (Billy) Harris, Phyllis Hyde and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with Drs. Ben Stubblefield and Ralph Wooten officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Trinity Memorial Gardens with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Will Wiggins, Rush Wiggins, Carter Biggers, Toby Roach, David Horton and Ryan Smith.
