Joseph Taylor

Joseph "Joe" Mearl Taylor, 80, of Chatom, passed away May 14, 2018 in Grove Hill. He was born May 17, 1937 to Marvin and Audrey Hoffman Taylor in Chatom. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he has been employed as a safety specialist with Ciba. His numerous extracurricular activities included fishing, golfing and coaching numerous pee wee football and little league baseball. He also served as volunteer firefighter in Chatom for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Tommy Gene Taylor and William Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Givens Taylor; sons, Gregory Givens Taylor, James Mearl (Mary) Taylor; grandchildren, Sydney Taylor, Mason Taylor and siblings, H.B. Taylor, Flo (Bill) Peters, Mike (Pauline) Taylor and Marvin (June) Taylor.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Chatom First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Roberson officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Chatom Town Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Thad Taylor, Bryan Taylor, Bud Taylor, Eric Beech, Glenn Sansing and Kevin Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mason Taylor, Jon Michael Davidson and Alex Odom.
