Juanita Newell Brown, 86, of Jackson, passed away September 11, 2018 at her home. She was born May 28, 1932 to Worthy Henry and Oneda Parsons Newell in Forrest, Arkansas. She was a faithful member of Jackson First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Chancel Choir and a Sunday School teacher.
A graduate of Millry High School, she received a bachelor's degree in Education from the University of South Alabama and a master's degree from the University of West Alabama and was employed as a teacher with the Clarke County Board of Education. She enjoyed reading, singing, crossword puzzles and cryptoquips. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Rev. Jake B. Brown.
She is survived by her children, Katherine Elaine (Jerry) Merritt, Karl David (Dianna) Brown), Marsha Lyn (Dr. Stanley) Beard, John I. (Amy) Brown; grandchildren, Jacob (Elissa) Brown, William Taylor, Jake Brown; great-grandchild, Cooper Brown and brother, Worthy Henry Newell, Jr.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. on September 15, 2018 at Jackson First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dr. Jim DuFriend, Dr. Danielle May, Al Brown and Jerry Taylor officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will precede the service at 10 a.m. at Barlow United Methodist Cemetery in Washington County with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Jackson First United Methodist Church Capital Fund.
