June Jarrell

December 14, 1931 — April 24, 2025

Mary June Smith Jarrell, 93, of Calvert, Alabama passed away on April 24, 2025, peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on December 14, 1931, to her parents Dan and Emma Mae Smith. June was the second child of five of her parents' children.

June, affectionately known as "Big Mama", had several passions in life which were her missions, her church, and her family. She visited 49 countries, spreading the good news of a risen savior. Her love for the ladies at the Mission of Hope (Taylor House) in Calvert was shown every Tuesday morning as she conducted a Bible Study with them. She would also attend their graduation and present each one with a devotional book she had chosen just for them. Her work in the church was unceasing as she served in every capacity possible, even leading services when the church was without a pastor. She was a prayer warrior and was often called on to pray for the sick and dying.

Her family meant the world to her, and she never passed up an opportunity to preach to them a sermon, but she also never failed to lift each of their names up in prayer every day.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lonnie P. Jarrell; her sisters Betty Blount and Emma Jean (Pud) Bailey; her son John Edwin (Johnny) Jarrell; and her daughter -in- law Terri Sue Jarrell.

Her memory will be honored by her children Donnie (Bernice) Jarrell, Ronnie (Nancy) Jarrell, Penny (Tim) Sullivan, Melinda (Bill) Bailey, and Mike Jarrell; siblings Frances Kellam and D.O. (Barbara) Smith, Jr.; her son by choice Kenny (Jeannie) Nicholas and faithful friends Pauline and Ray Moseley. She also leaves 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons.

Services will be held on Monday April 28, 2025, at Calvert Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the service begins at 10:30 a.m. with Bro. Freddie Williams, Bro. Tim Sullivan and Sister Rozalind Williams and Lathan Funeral Home directing. Interment will immediately follow services at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, nothing would make her happier than for donations to be sent in her memory to the Calvert Church of the Nazarene and designated for "Missions".
