Kossie Powell

Kossie Ray Powell passed away on July 2, 2023, at the age of 76. Kossie was born on March 18, 1947, to Marion Henri and Ruby Criswell Powell. He graduated from Clarke County High School and then attended Troy University before returning home to Grove Hill. Kossie married Judy Payne Powell, and they had one child, Virginia Kate Powell Jordan. Kossie was a faithful member of the Grove Hill United Methodist Church.

Kossie served as the assistant administrator of Grove Hill Memorial Hospital prior to establishing his family's logging business, Powell Trucking Company. He was a member of the Alabama National Guard. Kossie was a charter member of the Grove Hill Lion's Club, served on the Board of Directors at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital, represented District 4 on the Grove Hill Town Council, and one of his proudest accomplishments was serving as Chairman of the Grove Hill Utilities Board. Kossie dedicated 47 years to this position.

Kossie is survived by his daughter Kate Jordan and son-in-law Allen Jordan; three granchildren: Charles (Tabitha) Jordan, Sally Margaret Jordan, and Olivia Harris Jordan; and two great grandchildren: Lily and Sarah Jordan. He is also survived by his three brothers: Jimmy (Dot) Powell, Mike (Debbie) Powell, and Dennis (Marsha) Powell.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 9:00 am at Magnolia Lawn Cemetery in Grove Hill. Immediately following the service, visitation will be held at Grove Hill United Methodist Church. All friends and family are invited for a time of fellowship and remembering.
