Larry Gene Sheffield, 73, of Grove Hill passed away Wednesday, June, 8, 2022, at Mobile Infirmary. He was born on October 16, 1948, to Willie and Sadie Skipworth Sheffield. After graduating from Clarke County High School, he enrolled in the Police Academy. He began his career in law enforcement with the Clarke County Sheriff's department working in his community for over 30 years including serving under his brother, Sherriff Ray Sheffield, as well as Sherriffs Jack Day, Bobby Moore, and Ray Norris. He and Marie owned and operated Larry's Family Restaurant and attended Grove Hill Baptist Church. Even after retirement Larry was always there to help the people in his community in any capacity. He loved fishing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Marie Anderson Sheffield; his children, Chad Sheffield, Jeremy (Betty) Johnson, Gene (Mallory) Sheffield, and Cassie (Tony) Brown; grandchildren Dillan Sheffield, Reanna Johnson, Chance Sheffield, Drake Sheffield, Emerson Powell, Cole Powell, Randa Sheffield and Ryser Sheffield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Noah Caiden Brown, siblings, Willie B. Sheffield, Henry Lee Sheffield, Ralph Sheffield, Grady Sheffield, Nell Smith, Alda Rae Woolfolk, Clarice Hoven, Katherine Sessions and Ray Sheffield.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to services at Grove Hill Baptist Church. Dr. Tony Meinhardt and Dr. Randy Boone officiating with Lathan Funeral Home directing, interment at Tompkins Baptist Church Cemetery
Pallbearers are Randy Sheffield, Craig Hoven, Barry Hoven, Tony Sheffield, Jim Sheffield, Dwight Dunn, Brad Busby, and Wayne Sessions. Honorary pallbearers are Billy McConnell, Gene Motes, Cassy Powell, Wayne Wiggins, Leo Anderson, Presley Walker, Jennifer Robertson, Liz Boykin, Joe Langley, Faye Norris, and Virgil Chapman.
