LaVerne Lowery McDonald, 91, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2020 at her residence surrounded by family. She was born in Jackson on December 2, 1928 to Ellis E. Lowery and Mae Bell Williamson Lowery. She had been an active, lifelong member of The First Baptist Church of Jackson where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the WMU. She was also a Girl Scout leader and member of the Girl Scout District Board and was a superb seamstress and cook

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ruben Arnold McDonald; children, Claude McDonald, Lanona Hartsough and siblings, Henry Ellis Lowery and Marshall Lowery.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Preston A. “Arnie” (Shirley) McDonald, Helen (John) Henley, Ellen (Ralph) McVay, Kathy (Rick) Earl; grandchildren, Angela (Kenneth) Larrimore, Michael (Cindy) McDonald, Matt (Nicole) Henley, Jason Grider, Wyatt (Daisy) McVay, Brooke (Mike) Gable, Seth (Renee) McDonald, Richard McVay, Andrew (Becca) Henley, Crane (Hannah) McVay, Erin Earl; great-grandchildren, Whitney (Kyle) Reeves, Trey Larrimore, Kymberley Gable, Hunter McDonald, Maggie McVay, Luke McVay, Collin McVay, Alex McDonald, Hammond McVay, Bo McVay, Layla Henley; great, great-grandchildren, Madison Reeves, Hadley Reeves; siblings, Wynona Pelham, Dorothy Dean, Alex Lowery; sisters-in-law, Loretta Lowery, Ellon Lowery and numerous other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson with Dr. Ben Stubblefield officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers will be Michael McDonald, Wyatt McVay, Richard McVay, Crane McVay, Trey Larrimore and Kenneth Larrimore.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to The First Baptist Church of Jackson.

Those planning to attend are requested to wear mask to the service.
