Lois Carpenter Oates, 84, of Millry, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at her residence surrounded by family. She was born on Thursday, July 1, 1937, in Washington County. A member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Millry, she had been employed at Vanity Fair Mills as a seamstress prior to retirement. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, cutting grass and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Simmie and Lottie Richardson; first husband, Jimmy Lee Carpenter; son, Jimmy Wayne Carpenter and sister, Quida Loper.
She is survived by her husband, William Shelton Oates; children, Simon LeThoy Carpenter, Michael (Brenda) Oates, Buck Oates, Sonya (Todd) Nelson, Barbara (Gary) McInnis; sisters, Gayle (Mike) Hill, Lorraine Morgan, fifteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2022, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Cemetery with the Rev. Leon Parnell officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Adam Carpenter, Andrew Carpenter, Bill Carpenter, James Koen, Lamar Koen and Dexter Oates.
