Louise Ward

Louise Dorcus Anderson Ward, 95, of Jackson, passed away on January 24, 2024 at her daughter's home in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born on January 26, 1928, to parents George and Stella Woodyard. Mrs. Ward worked as a cashier for Furr's IGA for several years and made many friends along the way. She was a member of Forest Avenue Baptist church for 60+ years and was very active within the Jackson Nutrition Center. She loved gardening, tending to her flowers, collecting cookbooks, and her cat and constant companion, Joy. While "there is no place like home" she would say, she cherished time spent in Jacksonville with her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, and especially her great grandson.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husbands Walter Anderson and Eldrid Ward, sisters Juanita Catrett, Frankie Havard, and Mary Guy, brother Tarzan Conerly.

She is survived by her daughter Janice (Mitch) Linton, grandsons Blaine (Breanna) Linton and Blake Linton, great grandson Walker Linton, step-grandson LeDon Ward, brothers George Woodyard, Joe (Donna) Woodyard, sisters Catherine Trott, Flora Lee (Roger) Pettis, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.

Pallbearers will be Blaine Linton, Blake Linton, LeDon Ward, Tom Bolen, Joe Woodyard, and Bobby Tillman. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Fannie Wheat, Mrs. Jimmie Barnes, Mrs. Sherry Moseley, Mrs. Cindy Howell, Mrs. Denise Singleton, and Mrs. Pat Greer.

A celebration of her life will be held at Forest Avenue Baptist Church on Saturday, February 3, 2024. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. with the funeral service following at 11a.m. Officiating the service will be Bro. John Boss and Lathan Funeral Home directing. Burial will be at Pine Grove Methodist cemetery in Leroy.
