Maggie Nelson

September 28, 1937 — February 4, 2025

Maggie Elizabeth Arrington Nelson, 87, passed away February 4, 2025 with loved ones by her side. Maggie was born to Ora Elizabeth and Caroll Lafyette Arrington on September 28, 1937, in Greensboro, Alabama. From a very young age Maggie loved music, especially gospel music. She traveled with her mother and sang in churches and on the radio where Maggie, being so small, had to stand on a stool to reach the microphone. She met her husband Wallace Dale Nelson at her best friend's wedding in Greensboro. Wallace was the brother of the groom. It was love at first sight for Maggie and Wallace and they married August 18, 1957. They had 3 children: Phyllis Nelson Kennedy, Allen Wallace Nelson, and Ora Lynne Nelson. They moved to Jackson in 1964 where they assisted in operating the Arrington Nursing Home that her mother built. They were active members of the First Baptist Church. Maggie deepened her love of gospel music by learning to play the organ. She sang in the church choir and occasionally served as the organist. The Sunday before her passing, she was still "singing with the choir" (on television) as she did every Sunday morning. Maggie has 2 grandchildren, AJ Kennedy (Rhonda), Lisa Kennedy Hite (Walter), five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her son Allen; her brothers, James Edward Arrington "Bubba", Johnny Arrington, and Caroll Arrington, Jr. She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Wallace, and daughters Phyllis Kennedy (Andy), Lynne Nelson (Bob) and her many grandchildren.
