Mrs. Margaret Coleman Tompkins, a resident of Jackson, passed away Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020 in Jackson. Born July 16, 1927 in Quincy, Fla., she was the daughter of Mary Bivin Coleman and William Riley Coleman. She was 93 years of age.
Margaret loved the Scriptures and was a long-time member of the Jackson First Baptist Church. When her health permitted, she enjoyed crocheting and cross-stitching, and was very fond of reading.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Robert L. “Toots” Tompkins; sisters, Ann Coleman Bozeman Henderson and Kay Coleman Vice; and son, Robert C. “Bobby” Tompkins.
Surviving Mrs. Tompkins are her daughter, Nancy (James “Woody”) Rester of Jackson; son, James Frank Tompkins of Port Allen, La.; five grandchildren, Christopher Charles (Nicole) Tompkins of Jackson, Reagan Rester (Jeremy) Rousse of Barre, Vt., James Woodrow Rester Jr. of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jessica Tompkins Hayward of Port Allen, La., and Jaime (Julius) Bush of Gonzales, La.; and six great-grandchildren, Ayden Phillip Tompkins, Bryce Coleman Sloan, Blaine Patrick Sloan, Brindley Grace Hayward, James Robert “Jack” Rousse and Juliet Claire Rousse; one sister, Emily Coleman Cleveland of Alexander City; with many nieces, nephews and other family members. Mrs. Tompkins had many precious friends and neighbors through the years that remained always in her heart.
Graveside services will be Saturday, Aug. 15th, 10 a.m., at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson, with Lathan Funeral Home directing. The Rev. Brian Jemison will be the officiating minister.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the First Baptist Church of Jackson would be appreciated.
