Marion “Bumpy” Bumpers, 93, of Grove Hill, passed away Friday, June 5, 2020 at Jackson Medical Center. She was born in Selma on August 6, 1926 to Robert Albert Bumpers and Martha Williams Bumpers, both of who preceded her in death.
Although she never married or had any children of her own, Bumpy dedicated her life to teaching children in the Montgomery Public School System and volunteered to assist children in the Grove Hill public schools. She was a member of the Grove Hill United Methodist Church, Grove Hill Community Study Club, the Grove Hill Bridge Club and was a board member of the Grove Hill Public Library. She remained active in many of the activities of Grove Hill until her health began to fail in recent months and was unofficially dubbed the “Queen of Grove Hill” by those closest to her.
She is survived by her many, many close friends and relatives
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 12, 2020 at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill with the Revs. Dave Rhodes, Christine Cook and Chris Walker officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Grove Hill Town Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be William M. "Bumpy" Bumpers, Jr., Matt Davis, Eddie Foster, Chip Harrigan, Allen Jordan and Will Hearn.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of The Community Study Club.
A facemask and social distancing will be required to attend the visitation or service.
