Marion Edward Lomax

Marion Edward Lomax passed away at home in Fruitdale on April 23, 2024. He was born on December 8, 1944 in Mobile, AL to Marion Winston Lomax and Susie Katherine Granade.

Edward graduated from Washington County High School in 1964, attended Marion Military Institute from 1965-1966, and attended the University of Southern Mississippi.

Edward was employed by Sears and Robuck for 30 years in sales and he retired in 1999. He was in the Alabama National Guard Specialist 4 for six years, served as an MP in the Grove Hill unit and Signal in the Chatom unit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Winston Lomax and Susie Katherine (Williams) Granade and stepfather, James N. Granade Jr. and brother, William Leslie Lomax.

He is survived by his wife Joan Furr Lomax of Chatom, son Maury Edward Lomax (Kelly) of Mobile; and three grandchildren, Lauren Katherine Lomax, Caroline Elizabeth Lomax, and William Edward Lomax.

Edward was an avid outdoorsman and a devoted family man. Most of his time was spent either working on his farm or hunting and fishing with his grandchildren.

After his retirement in 1999, Edward and Joan moved from Mobile to Fruitdale where he restored his grandmother's home, Mrs. Grace Williams, and spent the last 25 years.

Edward was a member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church in Mobile and attended Four Points Baptist church for many years after his retirement.

Pallbearers will be Landon Lomax, Robert Hartley, Keith Lambert, Mike Savage, Barry Beech, and Christopher Beech. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rick Hoss, Ron Rowell, John P. Terranova and James Williams.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom with a visitation one hour prior to the services. Dr. Robert Kirkland officiating, burial will be at Grace Williams Cemetery following the service.
