Maxine Mcmillan

January 30, 1927 — March 31, 2016

Maxine Wiggins Tompkins McMillan, 89, passed away March 31, 2016 at Jackson Medical Center. She was born January 30, 1927 in Choctaw County to Druneta Downey Wiggins and Walter Wiggins.


She was employed for 20 years by First Bank of Grove Hill and retired from B.W. Wilson Timber Company as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Grove Hill Baptist Church where she was active in WMU. She was also a long-time member of the Ladies' Auxiliary and enjoyed attending monthly book club meetings and having afternoon coffee with her friends at the Courthouse Deli Bakery.


She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Harold Tompkins and E.P. McMillan; two sisters, Helen Adams and Eloise Brantley; two brothers, L.C. Wiggins and Rudolph Wiggins, and grandson, Ashley (Denise) Duke.


Her survivors include her daughter, Janet (Craig) Scruggs; stepdaughters, Brenda (Roy) Schell, Vicki Duke, Tina (Howard) Burkhart and Cindy McMillan; granddaughters, Summer Scruggs and Cailey Scruggs, Pamela Wiggins, April (Brian) Blackledge and Victoria Burkhart; grandsons, Thomas (Lindsay) Wiggins, Zachary (Christina) Duke and Nathan Burkhart; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Mikey Wiggins; numerous nieces and nephews; loyal friend and helper, Betty Nobles, and many loving family members, friends and neighbors.


Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, April 4, 2016 at Grove Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Meinhart officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Grove Hill Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.


Pallbearers will be John Brantley, Lee Brantley, Richard Burge, Roy Schell, Lou Wiggins and Thomas Wiggins.
