Maxine Taylor

Maxine James Taylor, 89, of Mobile, passed away Friday, June 3, 2022, at Springhill Medical Center in Mobile. She was born in Tibbie on Tuesday, May 2, 1933. She had been employed as a home economics teacher in her younger years but opted to begin a career in retail sales at Gayfer's Department Store in Mobile, where she became the head of the Human Resources Department. She had an infectious laugh that lit up a room, and she was always the "life of the party" at any social gathering. There was never a dull moment spent in her presence. She was a superb cook and enjoyed needle point as well as home interior decorating.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis Maxwell James, Sr, Mary Linda McLean James and sister, Juanita James Young.
She is survived by her son, Marvin Hoffman "Bud" (Julia) Taylor, Jr.; siblings, Miriam Voncille James Cleary, Otis Maxwell (Sue) James, Jr.; nieces and nephews, Lisa Juanita Young, Johanna Cleary, Susan Cleary (Bill) Sommers, Eric Henderson (Mindy) Young, Jessica Sue James, Andrea Cassidy James (Manu) Sharma; great-nephews, Hiram Beauregard Young, Theodore Percival Young and numerous friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at Tibbie Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Woody Baughn officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service inside the church.
Pallbearers will be Mike Banks, Victor DuBose, David Hooper, Patrick Judge, Thad Taylor, Eric Young, Hiram Young and Theo Young.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tibbie Baptist Church.
