Melton DuBose, 92, was called to his heavenly home on November 14, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. Melton was born April 5, 1932 to Lemuel Henry DuBose II and Leota York DuBose in Jackson. After graduating from Jackson High School, Melton entered the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1955. He used his GI Bill to attend Mississippi Southern College in Hattiesburg, MS and went on to be named the State of Mississippi's "Outstanding Graduate in Accounting" when receiving his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1958. Melton began his career as Auditor of Public Accounts for the State of Alabama. He worked in corporate accounting in Birmingham for several years, achieving the position of Comptroller. Melton's goal had always been to return to his hometown of Jackson, which he did with his family in 1970. He opened an accounting business and established a farm and cattle operation. His greatest treasure was the friends he made in his forty years of accounting practice there. He was dedicated and professional; always honorably representing his clients.
Melton is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Patricia Ryser DuBose; son, Melton Lambert DuBose; grandchildren, Joseph (Wendy) DuBose, Caroline (Michael) Bedwell, Linsey Stockman, Clara DuBose, Amy DuBose; nine great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Clara Elizabeth DuBose; sons, Stuart Craig DuBose and Lemuel Henry DuBose III; and sister, Nell DuBose (Jack) Howell.
