Mildred Hicks

Mildred L. Hicks, age 101, of Grove Hill, died July 8, 2023. Mildred was a faithful and active member of Asbury Baptist Church where she had attended the majority of her life. A true southern lady from the days of old, Mildred had the soul of a caregiver. She truly loved and cared for her family and her community. She became a mother figure to all around her; protecting, feeding and loving each and every one. Mildred enjoyed gardening not just for the fresh air and delicious produce but also for the abundance of food she was able to can, preserve and share. She also enjoyed quilting, surrounding her loved ones in the warmth of a snuggly quilt made with love and care.

Mildred is survived by her children, Henry Neal Hicks, Martha Jean Hicks Criswell (Gerald), Oscar Lamar Hicks (Joyce), Myra Dianne Hicks Fuller (Warren) and Hosea Delane Hicks (Cheryl); 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rux and Maggie Baugh; husband, Oscar V. Hicks; child, Ruxie Stanford Hicks; daughters-in-law, Patricia P. Hicks and Barbara Ann Hicks; and sister, Myra Hart, Inez Cherry and Molly Sticher.

Funeral service will be held Monday, July 10, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Asbury Baptist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will follow the service in Asbury Baptist Church Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.

Active pallbearers will be Chris Hicks, Hunter Spidle, Grant Gregory, Starkey Hicks, Jason Fuller and Andrew Hicks.

Honorary pallbearers will be David McIntrye, Wayne McIntyre, Bert Hart, Johnnie Mullins, Don Nordan and Branden Barlow.
