Mrs. Ruth Haskew

August 13, 1923 — January 30, 2016

On the morning of February 9, 2016, Ramona Larrimore passed away at South Austin Medical Center in Austin, Texas. She died peacefully of natural causes in the presence of her family.

Ramona was born in Selma, Alabama on November, 9, 1928. She was the fourth child of Chester Dismukes Rodgers and Ester Nelson.

Ramona grew up during the depression and often told stories about what it was like. She said, "We just didn't have anything!" She said they were better off than most folks because they lived on their grandfather's farm and at least had chickens and a garden.

Everyone remembers Ramona as being a very kind and caring person. She was known for helping others and for her generosity. People in Texas thought she was "so cute" and loved hearing her southern drawl.

As Dr. Roy's wife, early in their marriage she was introduced to hunting and fishing. After several fishing trips involving many snakes and a tree falling on them, she decided that fishing and hunting was not for her! She also refused to eat the critters that Dr. Roy killed, but cooked them up deliciously for him. She spent her time sewing, quilting and cooking. She also went back to school and completed her master's degree in history at Livingston University. She was editor/co-author of The Heritage of Clarke County, Alabama (Volume 13) and enjoyed doing genealogy research.

Ramona was a member of the Thomasville Baptist Church in Thomasville, Alabama for most of her life and enjoyed the fellowship and friendship of her Sunday school class and many other church members.

Ramona was preceded in death by husband Roy Larrimore, parents Chester and Esther Rodgers, son Wayne Larrimore, sister Betty Jean Coffield, and brothers Ralph Rodgers and Paul Rodgers.

Ramona was survived by her daughters Mona Denise Brookshire and Nancy Elaine Jones, son David Bruce Larrimore, grandsons Ben Brookshire, Jesse Brookshire, Robert Jones IV, Daniel Jones, Jeremy Jones, Jonathan Larrimore, Sean Larrimore, Alex Larrimore, grand-daughters McKenzie Larrimore and Savannah Larrimore and great-grandson Gage Brookshire.

Flowers and memorials can be sent to Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill, Alabama. She will be laid to rest at Magnolia Lawn Cemetery in Grove Hill.

Special thanks to Dr. Paul Tucker and the nurses and physicians at South Austin Medical Center and Park Manor who took excellent care of her during the last few months of her life and Gaye Lynn Hough who spent many hours at her side. Also, a special thank you to Brother Gary Enfinger who travelled far to speak at her funeral.
