Nettie Marshall

Nettie Mae Overstreet Marshall, 94, of Gainestown died December 26, 2023 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Nettie Mae was born July 2, 1929 to Bonnie and Allie Overstreet in Alma. She was a loving, Christian woman who enjoyed reading her bible and attending church at Jones Chapel Methodist Protestant Church where she was a founding member. Nettie Mae was also a member of Jones Chapel Trio where she shared her love of singing gospel music along with singers, Yvonne Bryan and Louise Overstreet and musicians Doug Palmer and Paulette Autry.

Nettie Mae found peace in sitting outside watching the hummingbirds flit around. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and produce in her garden as well as cooking a delicious meal for her loved ones. She was an excellent baker as well - her plum cake will be dearly missed by her family. Nettie Mae was also a talented seamstress, having worked at Vanity Fair as well as enjoying quilting and cross-stitching in her free time; she has left behind many handmade treasures that will be cherished by her loved ones for generations to come.

Nettie Mae is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl W. Marshall; brother, J B Overstreet; sister, Peggy Guy; and daughter-in-law, Cynde Marshall.

She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Marshall and Ricky (Shae) Marshall; grandchildren, Ben, Mandi and Ensley; great grandchildren, Samantha (Jake Shaw), Lexi (Cavan Hanna), Amber (Ethan Dees), Jesse and Austin; great-great grandchildren, JoAnna, Luke, Colton, Emmaline, Tatum, Tannon, Maebry and Makenna; siblings, Yvonne Bryan and Bonnie Ray Overstreet.

Services will be held Friday, December 29, 2023 at Lathan Funeral Home, Jackson. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the service begins at 11:00 a.m. with Bros. Bennie Crawford and Wayne Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Jones Chapel Cemetery in Gainestown.

Active pallbearers will be Jake Shaw, Mike Bryan, Cavan Hanna, Ethan Dees, Jesse Marshall and John Skinner.

Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Perkins, Tommy Windham, Toady Windham, Maynard Overstreet and Tony Bryan.
