O.S. "Moon" Conerly, Jr., 98, of Jackson, passed away April 9, 2018 surrounded by family. He was born September 8, 1919 to O.S. Conerly, Sr. and Annie Mae Glover Conerly. A WWII veteran of the U.S. Air Corps, he was also a long-serving member of the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department, VFW Post 5355, the American Legion and Jackson First United Methodist Church. His numerous hobbies included hunting, fishing, watching Atlanta Braves baseball and Auburn University football and spending time with his many friends sharing stories.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Doris Elwell Conerly.
He is survived by his children, William S. (Jody Page) Conerly of Leroy, Ann C. (Victor) van Leeuwen of Madison, Maria J. (Tim) Sullivan of Satsuma; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with the Rev. Jim DuFriend officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Lathan Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service at Pine Crest Cemetery in Jackson with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Daniel van Leeuwen, Jason Conerly, Jon Sullivan, Taylor Sullivan, Brandon Hale and Stacy Carpenter.
Members of the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.
