Robert C. "Bob" Bumpers, Jr., 70, of Jackson, passed away May 28, 2017 at his residence. He was born December 15, 1946 to Robert Bumpers, Sr. and Keeble Bumpers. A teacher at Jackson High School, he served the school in many capacities, including coaching with the football team and softball team and was member of Aggie Nation. He was also active in the community, serving on the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department and was a member the Clarke County Representatives Committee and National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF). An active member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson, he was a longtime Sunday School teacher and deacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Bumpers; daughter, Candace Bumpers and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Jackson with Dr. Ben Stubblefield officiating. Visitation will begin two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in the Winn community with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Daron Bolen, Harold Everhart, Joe Etheridge, Danny Hayes, Danny Powell, Eddie Brundage and John Brown.
Honorary pallbearers include members of the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department, Jackson High School Faculty, the Aggie team, his Sunday School class and Bubba Butts.
Flowers will be accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Jackson Volunteer Fire Dept. at 118 College Ave., Jackson, AL 36545.
