Robert Edward Garrick 86 of Whatley Alabama passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Mobile Infirmary. He was born in Whatley on May 1, 1934 to Daniel Willard and Sarah Blackstock Garrick. Known to most as Robert Edward, he owned and operated Garrick’s Cash Sore for 60 years. He contributed so much to the community and was loved by everyone. He knew his customers by name when they walked through the front door. He was described by many as a thoughtful and generous man who went out of his way to help others. He was surely one of a kind. Mr. Garrick was a member of Horeb Baptist Church. He is the longest active deacon in the church’s history. He also served as the Sunday School records keeper until his death. He was a Master Mason and past Worshipful Master of Macon Lodge No 7. In 2016 he was recognized for outstanding service rendered to the Fraternity for 50 years of faithful service and loyalty to the principles of Freemasonry as a member of Macon Lodge No. 7. He was a member of the Clarke County Sheriff’s Posse. He also served as a member of the Whatley Water Board and was instrumental in helping his community obtain city water. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy “Dot” Powell Garrick, daughter Lisa (Edward) King, Selma, Alabama, Donna Robinson, Semmes, Alabama, grandchildren Adam (Rachel) King, Anna Catherine King, Kallie Robinson, Kailyn Robinson, numerous other relatives, friends and his beloved cat Smokey Joe. Graveside services will be at 2pm on Tuesday December 8, 2020 at the Whatley Cemetery with Rev. Warren Shewmake and Roger Robison officiating. The traditional service will be followed by the Masonic funeral rite. This service is one of the few ceremonies performed in public by freemasons. Active pallbearers are Edward King, James Permenter, Stan Fendley, Mark Fendley, William McConnell, and Robert Powell. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Knowles, Herbert Bush, John Moore,Gene Pritchett, David Ross, Gerald Spidle, Robert Hicks, Willie Allen, and Billy Mcconnell.
