Robert Henson

December 17, 1940 — September 10, 2016

Robert Edward Henson, 75, entered into rest September 10, 2016. He was born December 17, 1940 to Marie Elizabeth Blount Henson and Robert Lee Henson. He grew up on his family farm in Hawthorn and graduated from Leroy High School.


He earned his degree in mechanical engineering from Auburn University in 1964 and also served in the advanced ROTC during his college career. He joined the army as First Lieutenant shortly after graduation, supervising a platoon in Quin Hon, Vietnam. Upon return to civilian life, he was employed by Ciba-Geigy Corporation in the role of Sr. Maintenance Engineer where he worked until his retirement in 2001.


He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time on family timberland and river swamp property where he resided his entire life. He was a quiet, gentle person whose legacy will continue to help others through his establishment of a charitable foundation.


He was preceded in death by his parents.


He will be lovingly remembered by many cousins, friends and former co-workers.


Funeral services will be conducted at 5 p.m. on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom with Lyle Deese officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Old Washington Baptist Church Cemetery in Hawthorn with Lathan Funeral Home directing.


Pallbearers will be Kenneth Cartee, Michael Henson, Bill Napper, Wayne Napper, Wiley Schell and Craig Williams.
