Robert Jenkins

September 5, 1944 — August 15, 2022

Robert "Bob" Jenkins was called to his heavenly home on August 15, 2022 at the age of 77. He passed away peacefully at his residence with his family by his side, after a brief illness. Bob was born on September 5, 1944 in Vallejo, CA, the oldest of three siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert C. Jenkins, Jr. and Billie Highsmith Jenkins and grandparents Robert (Chet) Jenkins, Sr. and Ethel Schell Jenkins. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bobbie Jean, of Millry, AL; children, Robby (Stephanie) Jenkins of Elmore, AL; Rick Jenkins of Catlett, VA; Merlyn Jenkins of Warrenton, VA; grandchildren, Karlton (Brittany) Jenkins, Kyle (Bethany) Jenkins, Cosette Jenkins and Celine Jenkins; and great-grandchild Karleigh Grace Jenkins.

Bob met the love of his life, Bobbie Jean Carpenter, at Washington County High School. Upon graduating, he attended Livingston University where he earned a bachelors degree in education.

After graduating college, he and Bobbie Jean were married. They moved to Doraville, GA where Bob taught middle school math and science. They relocated back to Millry, AL where Bob continued his teaching career and he and Bobbie Jean became parents. Bob later secured a position at Ciba-Geigy, where he remained employed for 10 years. Bob then obtained employment at Olin Mathieson, where he held various positions including Training Specialist and Materiel Management Specialist and was afforded the opportunity to travel with Bobbie Jean throughout the United States and Ireland. In 2004, Bob retired from Olin and they moved to Oahu, HI to care for their granddaughters. There, they joined Millilani Baptist Church where they met and made lifelong friends.

Bob loved the Lord and his family. He and Bobbie Jean travelled frequently to spend time with their grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Bob enjoyed working outdoors, especially if it involved getting out on his tractor. He was an avid reader and devoted student of the Word. Bob served in various positions, including deacon, at Spring Hill Baptist Church, and treasured his church family. A gifted teacher of the Word, Bob loved serving where needed.

A private, family graveside service was held on September 5, 2022 at the Spring Hill Cemetery in Millry, AL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Spring Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
