Sarah Martin Miller, 91, of Grove Hill, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at her residence surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Choctaw County on August 15, 1929 to James C. Martin and Sadie Bush Martin. A veteran educator in several schools in Clarke County, she retired as the Vocational Director with the Clarke County Board of Education and was a member of Millry Baptist Church. She was fiercely loyal and devoted to her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and devoted her time and energy to their care. She was affectionately known as “Meoma” to her family and to many former students who lives she changed through her love, wisdom and care. She enjoyed music, dancing and loved flowers.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Ouida Shows and John Paul Martin.
She is survived by her daughter, Jan Paul-Kelley; granddaughters, Peyton Powell (Anthony) Brown, Carmen Paul (Christopher) Plaisance, Lindsay Paul; great-grandchildren, Sarah Leighton Powell, Reece Powell, Colby Davis, Carter Davis, Blair Powell; brother, Charles B. (Judie) Martin; special friend, Linda Deas and numerous other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Magnolia Lawn Cemetery in Grove Hill with the Rev. Renea Henderson officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Barnes, Joe Henderson, James McLean, Ray Norris, Tony Roberts and Teddy Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers will be Byron Carlisle, Jimmy Cochran and Woodie Pugh.
