Shirley Ann Small Busby, 80, of Chatom, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022, at a family residence. She was born on Tuesday, May 27, 1941, in Middleborough, Massachusetts. She had been employed as a registered nurse at Mobile Infirmary and was a member of Laton Hill Baptist Church in Chatom where she taught a children's Sunday School class. An avid artist, she also loved sewing and sharing her knowledge of those loves with others. Some of her happiest times were fishing with "Poppy" on the Coosa River.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Herbert Small, Eva Winfiski Small; husband, Donald E. Busby; daughter, Kimberly Ann Cody Hamilton and siblings, Veronica Small Washburn, Lawrence Small, Emily Small Young and Ellen Small Briggs.
She is survived by her children, Sharon Cody Beech, Caren Dee (William II, "Bo") McCrary; grandchildren, Thomas Cody (Erin Canady) Beech, Lawrence Coleman Beech, Olivia Joy Beech, William (Maria Anne Cassi) McCrary, III, Ashley McCrary (Jon) Mosley; great-grandchildren, Landon Mount (Mosley), Kinsley Mosley, Ryker Beech, Zeke Beech, Adelyne Rose McCrary; sister-in-law, Ethel "Babe" McCrary; special friend, Sandra "Sis" Fleming and numerous other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life service has been tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Laton Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Leland James officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations toward expenses.
