Vassar Stoker Brown passed away peacefully at her home in Chatom on December 11, 2022. She was 87.
She was a woman who cherished above all things her family and her faith in the Lord. She was a mother figure to many who knew and loved her.
Her favorite pastime was baking and cooking and she showed her love best to her family and friends by preparing her special dishes. Everyone knows about her famous gingerbread boys which were lovingly made by the dozens. She made her last batch just a week ago which included a "Molly" dog, her adored pet dachshund.
Vassar was preceded in death by her husband James H. Brown, Sr. and is survived by her five children, James H. Brown, Jr. (Charlotte), Joni Brown Perley (Timothy), Jamie Brown Gunn (Tim), Jeffrey W. Brown (Dawn), Kitty Brown Law (Raymond), as well as Brad Brown, who was like a son to her. She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren, Brittany, Miranda, Amanda, Peyton, Benjamin, Jane, Raymond, Brooklyn, Thomas, Ryan, and Patrick, and her twelve great grandchildren. Last but not least, honorary mention is given to Vassar's beloved dachshund, Maggie, who served as her loyal companion for many years before her return to Alabama, her final resting place.
Visitation will be Friday, December 16, 2022 at Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom at 10:00 am with service to follow at 11:00 am.
