Velma Patrick

Velma Mae Daugherty Patrick, 96, of McIntosh, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019 at her residence. She was born August 24, 1922 to Hiram Posey Daugherty and Nona Lee Hildebrand Daugherty in McIntosh. A member of McIntosh United Methodist Church where she served on the Board of Stewards and taught Sunday School for 60 years, she had been employed as an executive secretary at Ciba-Geigy. After retirement, she became a teacher at McIntosh Christian Academy, a job that she said provided "the best years" of her career. She loved young people and enjoyed helping them.

She was also the director of the McIntosh Theater Guild, past president of VMP Accounting Corp., a company that her husband headed. She was a member of McIntosh Industrial Board, member of the McIntosh Planning and Zoning Committee, honorary member of the Board of Directors of the Southwest Bank of McIntosh, honorary member of National Geographic and in 2001 was awarded the Bronze Leader Certificate and designated as a member of the "Commander Club" for service to the disabled Americans and veterans.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy Ellwood Patrick and siblings, Elwood Daugherty, Marvin Daugherty, Carrol Daugherty, Ruth Everette, Helen Touchstone and Betty Milstead.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Carolyn) Patrick, Patricia "Teencie" (George) Terrell; grandchildren, David (Niki) Patrick, Jason Patrick, Holly Terrell (Erik) Godfredson, Shannon Terrell (Matt) McCurdy; great-grandchildren, Evan Patrick, Jackson Patrick, Savannah Patrick, Sullivan Patrick, Alex Gotfredson, Leigh Gotfredson, Paige McCurdy, Natalie McCurdy, Owen McCurdy; siblings, Gerald (Faye) Daugherty, Bernice (Sam) Rocray. Dr. Bonnie McGee; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at McIntosh United Methodist Church with Pastor John Stone officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Will Payne, Luke Payne, Hunter Payne, Bobby Farish, Michael Barnett and Matt McCurdy.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ashley Milstead, Dean Daugherty, George Woodyard, Dane Daugherty, Malcolm Waite, Kenneth Coleman, Annette Lewis, Peggy Scott, Shelita Adams and Patsy Middleton.
