Walter Grey Brooks, 89, of Jackson, passed away Friday, February 7, 2020 at his residence. He was born May 12, 1930 to James Jackson Brooks and Willie Mae Champion Brooks in Coffeeville. An industrial salesman, he was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a charter member of Forest Avenue Baptist Church in Jackson. His favorite activities included singing, camping and working in his yard.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jessie Leon Brooks, James Levoy Brooks and Roy Brooks.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Brooks; son, Bobby (Linda) Brooks; granddaughter, Marisa (Josh) Petty; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Smith; sister, Eva Mae Woodham and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Forest Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Ben Stubblefield officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Flowers are welcome or donations in his memory may be offered to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or any favorite charity.
Pallbearers will be Josh Petty, Jerry Anderson, Drew “Stick” Outlaw, Phillip Sims, Jerry Bradley and Greg Rotch.
Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Looper, Ronnie Hare, Roger Hare, Champ Bowling, Sonny Hudson, Larry Scurlock, Randy Hare and members of Forest Avenue Baptist Men’s Sunday School Class.
