Walter Gates

Walter E. Gates, 74, of Gainestown, passed away May 16, 2017 at Mobile Infirmary. He was born April 12, 1943 to S.V. Gates and Mary Ellen Gates. He enjoyed many hobbies, including model airplanes, racing cars, hunting fishing and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was particularly fond of watching them participate in baseball games.



He was preceded in death by his parents.



He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sarah Gates; children, Chris (Lisa) Gates, Wendy (Austin) Anderson; grandchildren, Ryan Gates, Caleb Anderson, Micah Anderson, Carly (John) Harvey, Maci Gates; great-grandchildren, Kerri Rose Harvey, Sarah Beth Harvey and siblings, David (Retha) Gates, Martha Hebenthal and Willie McCully.



A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. at Perry's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Gainestown with the Rev. E.C. Russell officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. at Jackson First Assembly of God.



Pallbearers will be Ryan Gates, Caleb Anderson, Jon Harvey, Joseph Windham, Daniel Ellison, Cleon Washington and Micah Anderson.
