Walter B. "Walt" Johnson, 78, of Grove Hill, died December 23, 2016 at Providence Hospital in Mobile.
He was born December 2, 1938 in Excel to Wallace Houston and Daisy Marie Davis Johnson. He was a member of Tompkins Baptist Church in Grove Hill.
He served in Texas and Japan in the United States Air Force, after which he spent 44 years in the new and used car business in Houston, Texan and Grove Hill, in positions of sales and management. More recently, he was employed by the Clarke County Sheriff's Office. He also had a gospel music radio program on Bama 106.1
Walt was an avid golfer, winning several PGA Pro-Am tournaments in Houston and a number of tournaments at the Jackson Golf Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Gina Johnson Price of Houston, TX and Zella Johnson (Silvio) Castillo of Porter, TX; one brother, Houston "Lee" Johnson; a sister, Shirley A. Johnson, both of Grove Hill and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marisa (Jack) Burkhalter; three brothers, James W. "Jim" Johnson, Wallace C. Johnson and Winston Lavelle "Windy" Johnson.
Funeral services will be conducted December 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Tompkins Baptist Church with Bro. Johnny Gillis and Dr. Johnny Kendrick officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Excel Cemetery in Excel, AL
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tompkins Baptist Church Building Fund.
Active pallbearers will be Tim Kelly, Steve Baggett, Steve Jenks, Donald Dorman, Phil Kelly and Charles Motes, II.
