Wilda Overstreet Gilchrist, 72, died Sunday, August 7, 2022. Wilda was born March 17, 1950 to Fletcher Sr. and Lula Overstreet. She worked as a child nutritionist with the Clarke County Board of Education for 30+ years. A member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, Wilda taught Sunday School, Children's Church and Missionettes for many years. She was faithful to the church and truly loved sharing her beautiful voice through song. She was also a member of the WMU and Clarke County Historical Society. Wilda was an avid fan of the TV show Heartland and Auburn University Football.
Wilda is survived by her husband of 48 ½ years, James E. Gilchrist; daughters, Sunshine Gilchrist and Summer Cartwright; granddaughter, Summer Nicole Cartwright; siblings, Audrey Palmer, Geraldine (Sam) Dumas and Louie (Peggy) Overstreet; and close friend, Janie Williams.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Vivian Inez Overstreet, Lonnie Clyde Overstreet, Lula Marilyn Woodyard, Thomas Autry Overstreet, Martha Jackson and Fletcher Britton Overstreet Jr.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Jackson with Bro. Ben Stubblefield and Bro. Brian Jemison officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior. Interment will follow in Perry's Chapel Cemetery. Lathan Funeral Home directing.
