William Carter

William Gaines Carter, 81, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Jackson Medical Center. He was born in Jackson on October 8, 1939 to Stancel P. Carter, Sr., and Nellie Smith Carter. He retired after 44 years of service at McMillan Bloedel, now know as Weyehauser. He was a member of Witch Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was an avid fan of The University of Alabama football team. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and played high school baseball.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Erline Loper Carter; stepmother, Lola Carter and siblings, Gloria Hoven, S.P. Carter, Jr. and C.G. Carter.

He is survived by nieces and nephews, Kim Carter (Ken) McLendon, Karen Carter Fleming, Stewart (Karen) Hoven, Harold (Susan) Hoven, Danny (Martha) Hoven, Martha Lynn Dunagan, Larry (Jena) Parden, Garry (Cynthia) Parden, Mark Loper, Jonathan Loper, Anthony (Anne) Loper and brothers-in-law, Sidney Hoven, HJ (Bobbie) Loper; sister-in-law, Marion Loper (Luther) Parden and numerous friends

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 30, 2020 Witch Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Harrison officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing.
