Willie Smith, 84, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Jackson Medical Center. He was born March 2, 1935 to Willie Smith, Sr. and Sallie Champion Smith in Thomasville. An active member at the First Baptist Church in Jackson, he was a past president of the Jaycee and Rotary Clubs, having earned the highest honor of distinction with Rotary, the Paul Harris Fellow. He also served on the Jackson Planning Commission and was an avid fan of Auburn University football
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Willie Brayden Rager and siblings, Clara Smith, Mary Smith, Gertie Adams, Clifford Smith, Roy Smith, Edward Smith and Leonard Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Smith; daughters, Lisa (Ricky) Dunagan, Rhonda (Johnathan Tucker) Jones; grandchildren, Blake (Kaye) Dunagan, Ryan (Chris Bailey) Dunagan, Drew Jones, Sawyer Rotch, Kaylee Rotch, Laura Grace Rager; great-grandchildren, Maddi Dunagan, Brycen Dunagan, Russ Rotch; siblings, Winnie Anderson, Lamar (Sue) Smith and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with Dr. Ben Stubblefield and Rev. Brian Jemison officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Drew Jones, Sawyer Rotch, Blake Dunagan, Chris Bailey, Charles Burge and Ryan Dunagan.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Smith, Darrell Overstreet, Eugene Dunegan, Bill Burge, Michael Burge, Ken Burge, Henry Burge, Van Payne, James McDonald, Jim Howell, Jimmy Atchison, Flora Wiley, Hank Dunagan, Mike Smith, Monroe Smith, Larry Pope, Bill Hearn, Quincey Barros, Ashley Milstead, John Cave and Gaines Smith.
