Julia Yvonne Hubbard, 85, of Chatom passed away Thursday, September 24, 2020, in her home and in the presence of her family.
Yvonne, as her friends and family called her, was born in Mobile, Alabama and graduated from Murphy High School. After high school she worked for Mobile Press Register. In 1957 she married Dr. Len Hubbard and moved to Chatom where they have lived for 62 years. Yvonne was a homemaker and an active volunteer in the community. She was an American Red Cross volunteer, Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader, and an avid supporter of local schools and athletic programs. She was also a member of the Chatom Junior Women’s Club and in later years, a member of the Potpourri Club. Yvonne was an active member of Chatom United Methodist Church for 62 years. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her generosity and joyful spirit.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents A.O. Atchison, and Minnie Julia Grandquest Atchison, her son John Leonard Hubbard, III, and siblings Roy Atchison, Laura Andrews, Mary Jones, Faye Roan, Leon Atchison, Alfred Atchison, Sylvia Davis, and Austin Atchison.
Yvonne is survived by her husband of 63 years, John Leonard Hubbard, Jr.; brother James Atchison; children Terrie Hubbard Platt (Henry), Lawrence David Hubbard (Kimberly), Bryan Daniel Hubbard (Sabrina); 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Chatom United Methodist Church with visitation from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. and service at 3:00 p.m. Graveside service to follow at Chatom Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Justin Platt, Zach Hubbard, John Raleigh Hubbard, Atchison Hubbard, Nick Waters, and Mark Platt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chatom United Methodist Church memorial fund, P.O. Box 205, Chatom, AL 36518 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
